We’ve all made decisions we regret. Sometimes, we decide without thinking things through, or someone pressures us to make a quick decision.

If you found out you were unexpectedly pregnant, ordered the abortion pill drugs, took the first drug, but have now changed your mind, it may not be too late.

However, you must act quickly. Timing is critical if you hope to continue your pregnancy.

What Is Abortion Pill Reversal?

When you use the abortion pill method to end your pregnancy, abortion providers usually prescribe two drugs. The first drug, mifepristone, blocks the hormone progesterone from reaching the pregnancy.

The lack of progesterone causes the uterine lining to thin, and therefore, a pregnancy cannot continue to grow. Abortion Pill Reversal (APR) floods your body with the much-needed progesterone to potentially offset the effects of mifepristone.

Can I Still Continue My Pregnancy?

To have a much better chance of success, it is vital to begin APR within 24 to 72 hours after taking mifepristone. Studies have shown a 64% to 68% success rate when you take progesterone as soon as possible.

Do not take the second drug, misoprostol, if you hope to continue your pregnancy. Misoprostol causes vaginal bleeding and contractions to expel the pregnancy and tissue from your body. It’s usually taken anywhere from 24 to 48 hours after mifepristone.

Even if you have taken misoprostol, reach out anyway. Sometimes, the abortion pills do not work even when taken as directed.

Is It Safe?

Progesterone is a natural hormone that supports menstruation and the early stages of pregnancy. Healthcare providers also prescribe progesterone to help women struggling with recurrent miscarriages.

It is considered safe and necessary for a developing pregnancy.

However, you should inform your APR provider if you have a peanut allergy, as peanut oil is sometimes used in progesterone. However, alternative forms of progesterone without peanut oil could be available.

What Do I Need to Do?

Call the 24/7 APR helpline at (877) 558-0333 or visit abortionpillreversal.com. A healthcare professional will ask questions to determine if reversal is possible. If yes, they will connect you with a medical provider to start treatment.

Brazos Pregnancy Center is here to support you during your pregnancy. While we recommend first reaching out to the APR helpline when seeking abortion pill reversal, we offer a variety of other free services for women wanting to confirm their pregnancy or weigh their options.
