The abortion pill may seem like a convenient option for your unplanned pregnancy, but it comes with serious risks to consider. You deserve the facts when it comes to your pregnancy and your options. We can help you understand abortion procedures along with the risks.

The Abortion Pill Process

The abortion pill process (also known as medical or chemical abortion) consists of two different drugs, mifepristone and misoprostol, that work together to terminate an existing pregnancy. The FDA has only approved the use of the abortion pill for women up to 10 weeks of pregnancy.

First, mifepristone begins the process by blocking the receptors for the hormone progesterone and detaching the pregnancy from the uterine lining. Secondly, misoprostol is taken, which causes uterine contractions and dilates the cervix to expel the pregnancy. Cramping and heavy bleeding are normal side effects of a medical abortion.

To confirm your eligibility for the abortion pill, not only is a positive pregnancy test needed, but an ultrasound is needed to understand your pregnancy details.
